At City Gongfu KIDS, we focus on the development of the individual. Classes are carefully geared to specific age groups so learning is fun, structured and engaging. Martial arts training for children and adults involves a range of drills, partner exercises, games and forms to ensure that practice is enjoyable and challenging.
Come and join us at one of our clubs in Bristol, where we offer kung fu classes tailored for children and adults.
As well as the obvious health, fitness and self-defence benefits, children learn the values of respect, self-discipline, teamwork, avoiding conflict and helping others through our kung fu code of conduct. Fees are paid on a term basis.
Students can also gain club membership and progress through the club grading system in which they are awarded coloured belts for each level achieved. Club membership entitles students to also access extra grading practice events during the year. Fees apply for students opting for annual membership and our grading programme.
We are an inclusive club but please note that as there is only one instructor (Sifu Kee), our group classes might not be suitable for some children with specific support requirements.
Please contact Sifu Kee if you wish to discuss your child's individual circumstances and he will be happy to meet with you and your family beforehand.
Chi Sau (sticking hands)
Chi Sau acts as a bridge between the forms and real-life combat. It is a training method that enables practitioners to develop a high level of contact sensitivity, quick reflexes, correct body alignment and striking/trapping/tripping skills. It also helps develop good adaptability, i.e. the ability to flow with energy rather than fight against it.
At City Gongfu KIDS, we feel it is important to always keep learning and developing, so our training methods are not fixed and our syllabus is open to incorporating new skills, techniques and ideas. For example, we include breakfalls and take downs, including sweeps and throws. Similarly we employ a wider range of striking including circular strikes which can be used to good effect in certain situations, such as round kicks and hooks. For more experienced students, light sparring is also practised from time to time to help improve footwork, timing and reflexes. However the core principles of our training are based on the Wing Chun Kung Fu system including relaxation, structure, efficiency, explosiveness, speed and adaptability. Ultimately we train for health and good character, with self-defence only required as a last resort.
Sifu Kee began martial arts in 1994 and trained in several styles while at university, receiving his MSc from University College London in 2001. In 2003 he moved to Bristol and began studying Wing Chun Kung Fu, becoming an instructor in 2010. In 2012, he undertook his PGCE (Primary 5-11) and taught as a class teacher and children's kung fu instructor before setting up City Gongfu KIDS full time in 2017 in Bristol.
