GRADING PROGRAMME

Club membership at City Gongfu KIDS entitles students to be part of our grading programme. This is completely optional and new students are recommended to attend for at least two academic terms before deciding whether they wish to grade.

Gradings are usually held at the end of each of the three academic terms: spring, summer and winter. Beginner and intermediate level students usually attend gradings every 2-3 terms and are awarded coloured belts upon successful completion of their gradings. Awarded belts are included in the grading fees.

As students progress through the grades, the syllabus becomes deeper and more technical so more practice is required in order to attain the higher grades. Gradings at higher levels will therefore take longer to prepare for, particularly if students are maintaining the same level of practice. Advanced level students (Red Belt +) are encouraged to practice regularly, particularly their forms and drills. Students wishing to advance more quickly are recommended to attend two sessions per week and practice regularly.

GRADE / BELT PROGRESSION

Beginner-Intermediate Level

Level 1-2: Yellow Stripe / Yellow Belt

Level 3-4: Orange Stripe / Orange Belt

Level 5-6: Red Stripe / Red Belt

Advanced-Junior Coach Level

Level 7-8: Green Stripe / Green Belt

Level 9-10: Blue Stripe / Blue Belt

Level 11-12: Purple Stripe / Purple Belt

Assistant Instructor / Instructor Level

Brown Belt / Black-Brown Belt / Black Belt

Students taking their Brown Belt (Assistant Instructor Level) will need to be at least 16 years of age and have held their purple belt for at least two years.

As a general rule, the higher the grade, the longer it takes to prepare for gradings and more practice is required. Advanced students and above are recommended to attend classes at least twice weekly and undertake regular personal training to maintain their level.

All of our grades are recognised by the British Martial Arts & Boxing Association (BMABA).
